Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is presented to young Canadians who have achieved a set standard in community and self-improvement. It is a program of activities designed to challenge Canadian Youth to become involved in worthwhile extracurricular activities, leading to personal growth, development and achievement.

Participating in the Award Program, done on a volunteer basis, build character by developing self-confidence, responsibility, compassion, and self-reliance. As a result, young people become more community-minded and involved citizens in our society.

This Award Program is a non-competitive, self-directed program open to any person aged 14 to 25. Requirements for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a satisfactory completion of four program categories:

• Volunteer community service
• Develop a hobby or skill
• Participate in physical activity
• Overnight expedition, exploration or adventurous journey

There are 3 levels of Award Program – BRONZE, SILVER, and GOLD. Each level is progressively more challenging. The Award Program can be adapted for each individual regardless of his/her circumstance(s). The criteria for earning an award is individual improvement through persistence and achievement, based on individual capabilities. The program is non-competitive.”

Participating in the Canadian Cadet Program (CCP) is a great advantage to those participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as many of the skills worked on and acquired through the CCP translate directly to progressing towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

If you would like to participate through our unit, please talk to CI Boulanger and she will guide you in how to register. We want to give everyone the opportunity to participate in the Award and as such, the unit will cover the registration costs for any cadet that wishes to register
